PMU Training – BLOCK OVERVIEW
The training includes many topics and an extensive programme. In simpler terms, this means that through the different training blocks you develop the following skills:
Block 1 – Fundamental Understanding
- You learn to assess which candidates are suitable for brows, lips and eyeliner. You will be able to explain options, limitations and risks to the client — as well as what PMU is. You learn pigment theory and how our immune system responds to it.
- In addition, you practise symmetry and mapping on paper.
Block 2 – Colour Theory & Skin Understanding
- You learn to distinguish between cool and warm tones, predict colour results and adapt your work to different age groups and skin types.
- You work with basic techniques on practice skin/latex.
Block 3 – First Model Work
- You carry out a model consultation and map the shape with guidance.
- Your first treatments are performed with close support.
Block 4 – Independence Under Supervision
- You manage the full process on a model — consultation, mapping, workstation preparation, treatment and aftercare — with approximately 80% performed independently.
Block 5 – Advanced Model Work
- You work with touch-ups and analyse your first results. Technique and colour choices are adjusted, and you work approximately 95% independently with both new and existing models.
- Exams are held in two parts (theory and practice), plus tests during the online study programme
- Between the blocks, there are of course theory, assignments and drawing practice, which are reviewed and worked on at home.

- Modern PMU techniques for brows, lips, eyeliner and scalp, including the differences between methods, their applications and how to choose the right technique for each client.
- Anatomy and physiology with focus on the structure of the skin, skin layers, cell renewal, blood circulation and healing processes, so you gain a deeper understanding of how the skin reacts to pigmentation.
- Skin types, skin conditions and individual differences, including how age, lifestyle, medication, sun exposure and previous treatments can affect the result of permanent makeup.
- Contraindications, medical complications and safety procedures, so you learn to identify clients who are not suitable for treatment and how potential risks are minimised through correct professional practice.
- National and international authority requirements, hygiene standards and applicable legislation, so you work professionally and in accordance with industry requirements and guidelines.
- Correct completion of client records, consent forms and documentation, including how to ensure traceability, professional client handling and legally correct registration of treatments. - Needle modules, machines and equipment, where you learn about different needle types, their use, working depths and technical properties to achieve precise and consistent results.

The certificate is recognised documentation of your training and qualifies you to work professionally as a cosmetic tattoo artist within permanent makeup.

Expand your foundation training with scalp micropigmentation.
As a student at PMU-line, you have the opportunity to expand your foundation training with a specialised module in Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) — a sought-after and advanced treatment technique performed on the scalp to visually imitate hair density. The treatment is used, among other things, to camouflage areas with hair loss, conceal scars from surgery or injury, and create a more defined and natural-looking hairline for both men and women.
In this module, you will learn, among other things:
- Advanced techniques for scalp micropigmentation, including correct pigment placement, dot size, depth control and building natural results on different areas of the scalp.
- Skin analysis and selection of correct pigments, so treatments are adapted to each client’s skin type, hair colour, age and desired result.
- Professional workflows, hygiene procedures and correct preparation of both the work area and the client to ensure high quality and maximum safety.
- Techniques for creating realistic results using natural hair patterns, shading effects and correct pigment placement, so the final result appears harmonious, discreet and true to life.
The module gives you a solid foundation in scalp micropigmentation and opens the opportunity to offer an attractive specialist treatment to clients with hair loss, thinning hair or visible scars on the scalp.
